Electricity

TASB Energy Cooperative's electricity program for Texas schools and local governments provides highly competitive pricing and budget stability for all members.

TASB Energy Cooperative members in deregulated electricity areas in Texas can take advantage of competitive, fixed rates on electricity by participating in the TASB Energy Cooperative's electricity program. More than 200 governmental entities across Texas utilize 1.5 billion kilowatt hours (kWH) per year through the Cooperative’s electricity program, making the Cooperative one of the largest electricity aggregators in the state.

The electricity market is continuously monitored, helping entities contract based on the specific requirements of the school district, university, county, or municipality.

Electricity Program Benefits

The TASB Energy Cooperative built an electricity program with members in mind. The electricity service agreement used by the Cooperative-awarded retail electric provider has been specifically designed with governmental entities’ needs in mind. This includes:

  • Competitive pricing: Cooperative members benefit from competitive pricing and value thanks to the combined purchasing power of local governments.
  • Dedicated customer service: Members receive dedicated support from a Direct Energy Business account executive and a Direct Energy Business Customer Care team. In addition, TASB, as the Cooperative’s administrator, also has staff available to assist members with inquiries and general support regarding the Cooperative program.
  • Add and delete meters: Members receive an allowance to add or delete some meters without penalty. Additionally, when adding meters within the allowance, members receive the lower of the current energy price or their contract price.
  • Usage swing: Members are not penalized with fees for exceeding or falling short of projected usage on contracted meters.

Competitive Pricing, Stability, and Budget Certainty

Cooperative members pay a fixed rate for electricity through an electricity service agreement with the Cooperative’s awarded retail electricity provider (Direct Energy Business, an NRG Company) providing peace of mind when it comes to budgeting. Additional benefits are available to participating members, including:

  • Responsive Economic Dispatch (RED) Program: A simple way for members to monetize energy consumption and curtail their load during periods of high demand. The program is recommended for any customer with flexible load during peak summer and winter hours. Learn more about the RED Program on the NRG website.
  • Four Coincident Peak (4CP) Alerts: If you have an Interval Data Recorder meter in the ERCOT system, your demand charges — which impact pricing year-round — are likely set during four 15-minute grid peaks in June, July, August, and September. Weather and demand fluctuations can make it tricky to determine the exact period when the grid will peak each month. 4CP alerts can help members anticipate those peaks to reduce energy usage during those key times. Learn more about 4CP alerts on the NRG website.
