Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Texas Association of School Boards, Inc., including its affiliated entities, (“TASB”, “we”, “our”, “us”) may collect personal information from and/or about you through our website, tasb.org, as well as our applications including mobile applications, and online platforms including social media platforms (collectively the “Site”). It also describes why we collect this information, how we may use or disclose this information, and the choices you have with regard to the personal information we process.

This Privacy Policy is subject to change at our discretion. We will indicate changes to the Privacy Policy by updating the “Last Updated” date at the bottom of this page. Your continued use of the Site after any update to this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of the changes.

Personal Information We Collect

Information You Provide

You may submit personal information, which is information that can be used to identify you individually, when you interact with the Site. For example, we may collect certain contact information about TASB members and non-members (such as name, email address, postal address, or phone number) when you register for an event or apply for a position with us online. 

When you apply for a position through our Careers page you may submit personal information to us through our vendor; this personal information may include details about your educational background, work experience, certification(s), and licensure(s). You may voluntarily choose to provide additional personal information through your application materials.

We or our vendors may process payment card information provided by individuals who interact with our store or register and pay for classes or events offered by TASB.

If you are a TASB member, we may collect additional information about you when you create your account, or as otherwise disclosed at the time of collection.

Online Tracking Technologies

We and our vendors may collect certain information about visitors to our Site through the use of cookies and similar online tracking technologies, such as web beacons. This information may include IP addresses, device identifiers, browser characteristics, internet service provider details, and details about your use of the Site.

Generally, cookies and other online tracking technologies may allow for the identification of visitors to a website, record visitors’ preferences, and track visitor patterns to better understand how visitors use websites. Most web browsers accept cookies by default, but you may be able to adjust your browser settings to remove or reject cookies. Please note that blocking cookies may affect the availability and functionality of this Site and other websites.

Information Collected by Other Parties

Our vendors may provide us with the personal information that you submit to them. For example, if you apply for a job through the Careers page, you submit personal information to one or more of our service providers that may then share that information with us. We may combine information we have about you with information we obtain from other parties. Please note that when you submit personal information to another party, you are subject to that third party’s terms of use and privacy policy, for which we are not responsible.

We may engage vendors to provide certain interactive features on our Site. Your use of these interactive features is voluntary, and we may retain the information that you submit through these features. For example, we may offer an interactive chat feature on the Site. When you participate in an interactive chat, the contents of the chat may be captured and kept as a transcript. By using these features, you understand that our vendors may process the information obtained through the feature to provide the service on our behalf.

Use of Information Collected

We and our vendors may use the personal information we obtain through the Site for various purposes, including to fulfill your requests. For instance, if you use our Site to register for an event, your payment information will be processed to enroll you in that event.

We may also use the information we collect to facilitate and personalize your experience on the Site, monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities of visitors, take certain action with regard to any suspected or actual fraudulent or illegal activity or activity that violates our polices, comply with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and legal processes, or for any other purpose, with your consent.

Disclosure of Information

We may disclose information we have collected through the Site to our business partners and vendors. For example, we may use service providers to help us operationally, or to administer activities on our behalf, such as sending emails. In addition, we may disclose information in the event we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business assets (e.g., further to a merger, liquidation, reorganization, or any other business transaction, including negotiations of such transactions).

We may also disclose information as required by law and/or when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process, to protect or defend TASB, or where we perceive an immediate danger of harm to someone as a result of activity on our Site.

Analytics and Advertising

We and our vendors may use cookies, web beacons, and other similar technologies to collect or receive information about your use of this Site, and use that information for interest-based advertising and to monitor and analyze trends on the Site. We and our vendors may use first-party cookies or other first-party identifiers as well as third-party cookies or other third-party identifiers to deliver advertisements, create a profile of you, measure your interests, detect your demographics, detect your location, and personalize content.

We may use third-party technology and vendors, such as Google and Microsoft, in connection with your activity on the Site to help us understand and analyze how visitors use the Site. These technology companies and advertisers may use, store, or access cookies and other tracking technologies to collect or receive information from the Site, and elsewhere on the internet.

Any opt-out choice may apply only to the browser or device you are using when you opt out, so you will need to opt out on each of your browsers and devices if you want to disable interest-based advertising for those browsers and devices. If you opt out, you will still receive ads, but they may not be as relevant to you and your interests. Please note that we do not control how third parties manage their opt-out processes.

Social Features

The Site may permit you to interact with social media platforms operated by unaffiliated parties, for example, to “like” TASB or to share content from the Site on those platforms (“Social Features”). If you choose to “like” or share content or post information using Social Features, that information may be publicly displayed, and the party operating the other platform may receive certain information about you and your use of the Site. Similarly, if you interact with us through Social Features (e.g., if you “like” or “follow” our page on another platform), we may have access to information about you from that platform. Please note that if you mention or comment about TASB or our Site in your post on another platform, that platform may allow us to publish your post on our Site. In addition, we may receive information about you if a user on a social media platform gives us access to their profile and you are one of their connections, or information about you is otherwise accessible through that other user. You should review the terms, policies, and settings of these other platforms to learn more about their data practices and/or adjust your settings.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Nevertheless, no website, application (including mobile applications), online digital storage, or online platform (including social media platforms) is completely secure and transmission via the Internet and wireless networks and online digital storage are not completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of your information collected through the Site.
